This is one of the newest and most dangerous ransomware history (see PCWorld article on this link). A ransomware is a virus that encrypts data (usually all or disk) stored on a computer and that requires the payment of a "rescue" (hence the name) to be disabled.

Some customers megabit were recently infected by this type of software, and data recovery proved completely impossible.

It is the warning to take the necessary measures to prevent this contamination, namely:

  • anti-virus software current on all company PCs
  • Firewall operating updated and
  • extra care when opening emails from unknown sources (or known but "disguised"), mainly at the opening attachments
  • Implement a system of rotating backups of critical data

There is no "magic" solution to such problems, but rather a set of technologies (hardware and software) and procedures that prevent infection and spread of such threats.

You can contact our security department at www.megabit.pt/#servicos_profissionais to find out more about our solutions in this area.
